Some prayers are playful. Others reveal what we’re really hoping for.
Maybe I’m Supposed to Create Anyway
A blog series about calling, creativity, and quiet obedience.
Welcome. If you’ve found yourself in a season of building something unseen—something God whispered to you in the quiet—you’re not alone. This blog is a slow, sacred space to wrestle with the creative process, spiritual tension, and real-time becoming.
Each entry in this series stands on its own, but they’re all part of the same journey.

God and the Lottery
One week, I felt especially blessed.
Not in a flashy, everything-is-perfect kind of way—but just… good.
I had a little extra money. My heart felt light. And without much thought, I smiled and asked,
“God, should I buy a lottery ticket?”
I wasn’t trying to get rich. I wasn’t even serious, really.
It just felt like maybe something unexpected could happen.
Later that day, I stopped for gas and whispered another quick prayer as I stepped out of the car:
“Lord, if it’s Your will, guide me.”
And wouldn’t you know—there was a brand-new lottery ticket on the ground, right there by the pump.
I picked it up, took it home, and waited.
When the time came, I checked the numbers.
I didn’t win anything.
But I laughed. Not in frustration, but in this odd, joy-filled kind of way.
It felt like God had gently answered:
“I heard you. I’m here. But no… not like that.”
But let’s slow down here…
That little moment uncovered something deeper for me.
Was I really trusting God for provision…or just hoping for an easy escape?
I didn’t think I was chasing a shortcut—but maybe I was hoping for one.
It’s such a quiet temptation, especially when you’ve been doing the right things.
Being faithful. Showing up. Creating what God asked you to create.
But still waiting.
Still hoping something will finally break open.
Maybe you’ve felt that, too.
That longing for the moment it all makes sense.
The big break. The viral post. The email that says,
“We’ve been watching you. You’re the one.”
That ache to be seen—to know the invisible work matters.
But God rarely works like that.
He’s not handing out calling like scratch-offs.
He’s not running a lottery.
He’s growing something.
You remember Elisha?
Not the prophet performing miracles. The version of him no one talks about much.
The one behind the oxen.
Covered in dust.
Just… plowing.
No audience. No strategy. No visibility.
But fully seen by God.
He wasn’t campaigning. He wasn’t rushing.
He was just available when purpose came.
Elisha didn’t perform to be chosen. He stayed close.
He followed Elijah for years—quietly, faithfully, behind the scenes.
And when the mantle fell, he didn’t audition.
He simply picked it up.
Because he was already in step.
I think that’s what faithfulness looks like sometimes.
Not loud. Not public. Just ready.
I read something in Show Your Work by Austin Kleon that struck me:
“You don’t have to be a genius. You just have to be willing to be seen in progress.”
That feels true.
The lottery wants a polished product.
But maybe the Kingdom invites us to be seen in the middle of becoming.
Not because it’s impressive.
But because it’s real.
Maybe the miracle isn’t a lightning-strike moment.
Maybe it’s this:
The slow trust.
The honest work.
The posture that says, “I’ll keep showing up, even if no one’s clapping yet.”
Maybe the breakthrough is not a big reveal.
Maybe it’s staying close enough to hear God whisper,
“Not like that. But I’m still here.”
I still think about that lottery ticket sometimes.
Not because I wanted to win.
But because of what it revealed.
I don’t need an escape plan.
I need to stay present.
I want to be faithful enough that when something does shift,
I’m already standing where I’m supposed to be.
Like Elisha.
Not striving.
Not performing.
Just available.
So I’ll keep creating.
Keep showing my work.
Keep walking close.
Not for a lucky break—
but for the God who never rushes,
and never forgets what He planted.
